We have to hand it to CIBC’s chief Victor Dodig, the man has guts. Anyone who can, with a straight face no less, publicly suggest that a comparatively small tax increase on big bank and insurance companies is bad for Canada is either delusional or really, really brave.
Dodig suggests that Canada needs to have a healthy banking system. We agree. But doesn’t the recent round of record multi-billion dollar profits prove that Canada’s big banks are healthy already? Really, how healthy do they need to be?
Hopefully Mr. Dodig’s comments are heard loud and clear across the country, and serve to insult everyone else in Canada just as much as his comments insulted us.
We urge you to connect with other Canadians and make sure the banks pay their fair share…and soon.
